Help Stop Foie Gras
A VfA demonstrator protests the sale of foie gras at Lucca
Everyone can take part in making foie gras a thing of the past. If you are a concerned individual who wants to know how to take simple, easy steps towards alleviating the suffering of ducks and geese in foie gras farms, here are some suggestions. Don’t be afraid to come up with some of your own ideas and strategies as well!

  • Don't buy foie gras! Let the companies that torture these animals know that you don't support their inhumane industry.

  • Write a letter and call a restaurant that sells foie gras, politely urging them to remove foie gras from their menus.

If you want some ideas regarding what to write in your letter, we have provided a sample letter for you. If you know of any restaurants in Pittsburgh that sell foie gras that are not on our list, please contact us at PghFoieGras@yahoo.com.

  • Thank a restaurant for forgoing foie gras! The Foie Gras-Free Pittsburgh has already enjoyed success in persuading local establishments to stop selling and serving foie gras. Write a letter thanking this establishment for making the intelligent and compassionate decision:

  • Speak up! Anytime you see foie gras in a store or restaurant, make a point to speak to the owner or manager of the establishment, requesting the removal of foie gras from their menu.

  • Go vegetarian! Ducks and geese are not the only animals who suffer in agriculture. Other farm animals live miserable lives and die agonizing deaths all in the name of people eating their flesh. Humans have no nutritional need for animal products, and plant-based diets are better for the environment. To learn more about adopting a vegetarian diet, please visit TryVeg.com.

  • If you're in the Pittsburgh area, please contact us. We are are planning many events, including leafletting and other non-violent forms of protest that we would appreciate your support in.

  • Talk back to the media! Whenever foie gras is promoted in magazines, newspapers, or culinary television shows – be sure to write letters to the editor or letters of complaint to those involved showing your opposition to the horrendous cruelty that all ducks and geese face in foie gras production.
